5 Reasons Animals Help Us Enjoy Life

Pets

Growing up, the family cat went everywhere with us. I’m not talking the grocery store and park; cats just don’t DO those kinds of things. I mean countries! We moved around a little to several different countries and the cat always came with. She wasn’t just a pet, she was part of the family and even had her own kitty passport. I’m not alone in that feeling either. 66% of pet owners in America stated that their pet was their best friend in their eyes.

Pets say a lot about a person. 60% of men think that the choice of pets their date has, shows something about their personality. On the other side of the coin, 35% of women surveyed admitted to being more attracted to someone simply because of their pet. So pay attention to the pet situation when looking for a potential mate!

In fact, lets look at five ways pets can improve life.

  1. Prevent Allergies A child’s likelihood of having allergies can actually be lowered by almost 33% because of having a pet in the home. They have the chance to build up an immunity because of being around the animal constantly.
  2. Provide Companionship Four out of 10 dog owners state that companionship is the top reason for having a dog. Dogs can be very loyal and are always happy to see you. This is why dogs are the main animal of choice for training to be an emotional service animal.
  3. Improve Health You better believe it! Pets can improve your health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, improving cardiovascular health, relieving depression and they even improve survival rates after having a heart attack.
  4. Improve MarriageI know you think we might be going way out on a limb here with this one, but read carefully: pets can improve your marriage because they are attentive and improve physical touch. Having a pet can trigger positive memories and provide joy and laughter in the home, relieving tension and resentment.

Now that we all know pets are fun and loving and great to have around, pet care can be somewhat of a burden at times. Especially as our furry friends begin to age or get sick. In 2011 18.7% of dog owners said they did not take their dog to the vet all year long despite the recommendation for adult animals to be seen annually for their yearly check up. Do ensure that all your animal’s tests and vaccinations are kept up to date for both of your safety. Urgent care for pets is a fantastic place to take your special one if you think something might be wrong but don’t have a regular vet visit scheduled. Taking care of our animals is one of the best things we can do in life, for them and also for ourselves and if you don’t have a pet, you need one!
