If you have a dog or a cat, you should take him or her in for a check up at the veterinary care center more than you think. Here’s what you should probably know.

Pets Need to See the Vet Based on How Old They Are.

Pet owners need to take their furry friends to veterinary care centers as frequently as their age prescribes. Pets who are eight to 16 weeks old should see their vet and/or veterinarian technician at about twice per month. After that, they should go to their advanced veterinary care centers at least once a year for a check up, but when they get to be 10-years-old and up, they need to go twice a year, or once every six months.

Regular Check Ups Should Include Numerous Checks.

At a regular check up, the veterinary care center staff should check a pet’s eyes, teeth, heart, lungs, blood, ears, lymph nods, skin, fur, and abdominal organs. Vets will also ask and remind owners that their pets should be getting their teeth brushed, monthly heart worm medicine, flee protection, and the proper dietary nutrition.

Check Ups Are Important Because Pets Don’t Often Show Symptoms.

One of the most important reasons pets need to be taken for regular check ups at veterinary care centers is because they don’t often show symptoms until it’s too late. Two-thirds of a pet’s kidney function could potentially be gone by the time they begin to show symptoms of kidney disease. About 85-90% of dogs over the age of three suffer from some degree of tooth decay or oral disease. About 90% of senior dogs have osteoarthritis. Getting pets regular check ups can help prevent diseases, and keep them from having to go to emergency vet care when things get too late.

Basically, regular check ups are important. If you have any questions, feel free to share in the comments.
